About This Event
3 the Hardway is a 3 piece proto punk rock band from Detroit, Michigan. Theyve released an album (HWUAH in 2024) and an ep (sex cymbal in 2025). They have been reviewed by national publications (Maxium RnR and Razor Cake). Theyve played many shows in the Detroit area in the past few years as well as 2 small tours in Canada and through the Midwest. Brooklyn is the lead singer, drummer and main songwriter. Her singing style is somewhat reminiscent of Kathleen Hanna (bikini kill) mixed with alittle extra Detroit gusto. Her drumming is fierce, punchy and primal. Joel is lead guitarist and songwriter. In a minimalist approach toward tech and playing, he is able to create a tone all his own that brings a sharpness that cuts through each song. A guitar sound that sounds like pretty but mean. Frank holds down the bass and is the newest addition to the group. He joined in August 2025. Frank provides very rhythmic bass that compliments the songs in a cohesive manner. The trio is set to release a new 4 song ep in spring 2026 called hotcakes. Their music is influenced by bands like the cramps, suicide, bikini kill, babes in toyland, L7, die spitz and iggy and the stooges. They play rock music that borders on the genres of riot grrrl, garage rock, and rockabilly but in mainly embody proto punk. They are mean, loud and ready to rock. Ever an optimist, Kevan Caldwell is in pursuit of the perfect pop formula. His recent project Caldwell began as a strong bid for levity and delight in the wake of a global pandemic and the unfortunate separation of his former group, the Planchettes. Based in New Orleans, Caldwell has long drawn inspiration from the citys artistic resilience as Americas Last Bohemia. From Southern rock-n-roll to Carnival theatricality, the frontman/musician embraces nostalgia, novelty, and nonsense equally in both his music and everyday life. Despite Caldwells warm, yester-year sound, let it be known that his eponymous new group is not a revival band. Instead, experimenting with different time signatures, and chord progressions, Caldwell creates his own brand of archival pop, reaching back to access the sounds of the Sixties only to bring them back to the forefront of the modern imagination. His latest single Love Confessions and self-titled, first album are distinctly post-British Invasion, on the psychedelic pop side of the expansive genre. With these leanings, Caldwell is interested in making music that is unashamedly feel-good, high-energy, and old-school. Caldwell wrote, recorded, and produced his first album and single entirely on his own. Though hes unafraid of these solo machinations, the musician is looking forward to putting a group together to incorporate new perspectives into his future work.
